Shaped more like a tambourine than a drum, the instrument measures 2 inches deep with a hard plastic rim supporting its 8-inch diameter. The clear, comparatively thin plastic drum cover provides a view of the fluorescent jewel beads that create a pleasing whoosh noise when the drum is tipped. But if your child craves an occasional boom alongside the soothing waves, the included plastic mallet will help make a hardy thunder.
